Il Diario di Diletta 8 The auxiliary verb "Essere"

In this text we look several form of the auxiliary verb "ESSERE": "sono, sei, è, siamo".
Let's go to learn together.

Let's learn the present indicative. 

At the same time we can see the personal pronouns (subject).

io sono - I am

tu sei - you are

lui/lei è - he/she is (esso/essa è - it is)

noi siamo - we are

voi siete - you are

loro/essi/esse sono  -  they are

There isn't duty to use the personal pronoun, because the verb has different desinences and it's easy to understand which is the subject of the sentence.

I could say:

"Io sono Paolo."  OR "Sono Paolo"

"Lui è Carlo" OR "E' Carlo"

"Lei è Daniela" OR "E' Daniela" 

We look some sentences. 

 

Che ora è? What time is it?

Sono le sette di sera. It's 7:00 pm.

Chi sei? Who are you?

I'm Amanda.

Dove siete? Where are you?

Siamo a casa. We are at home.

Chi è? Who is he?

E' il figlio di Paolo. He's Paolo's son.

Chi è? Who is she?

E' la madre di Anna. She's Anna's mother.

Chi è? Who is he?

E' lo zio di Carlo. He's Carlo's uncle.  

We translate the text:

It is four o'clock in the afternoon. I'm at the airport. I'm waiting Valerio. He is by plane, coming back from Montreal. While waiting I look at advertising on the screen atrium of arrivals. Time is slow. Valerio appears among the passengers and I'm greeting him cheerful. "Diletta, you're here! You're gorgeous as ever! "Valerio is excited, gives me a big hug and talks to me about his trip. I look at him and smile. I'm glad and happy. Finally we are together again.
